Just hit a major low-point...

So I'm sitting here at work listening to some music from my laptop. Randomly, Miles Davis' All Blues comes on. I turned up the volume just a little bit, trying not to bother the people working around me.

Apparently I did bother someone because Neeraj, one of the guys who sits near me, came over to my computer to listen and learn. If I can make some of these Indians appreciate good music, the time I spend in India will have all been worthit. This in mind, my heart sunk when Neeraj asked this question:

"Ohhhhhhh.... Sounds good..... Nate, why are you listening to bagpipes?" (much funnier when said in an Indian accent)

I guess it shouldn't suprise me that people in India have no appreciation for America's only original artform.

Oh well, I didn't come here for the music.

well nate u really cant blame neeraj ....i am sure like many indians he did not hear miles davis before in his life ....it all depends where and how did u grow up in this country.( much like in the US , where a fellow from Alabama who has never stepped out of his state might react to when he goes to NYC for the first time i am sure u get my point )....many people have come up the hard way and have not had a chance to educate themselves in english medium schools ..or better still if they have ..then only as a medium of instruction...at the most some hollywood blockbuster movies once in a while and the crappy backstreet boys n 'we are going to Ibiza " kind of music that became popular among the folks exposed to english music ( i dont consider it music though ) through the initial phases of satellite television.
But dude i gotta agreet oyou on one thing for sure ,i have beeen here in the US for almost over two years now ...things here are definitly a lil relaxed n informal but again it also depends where u work and how ur co-workers are ....so its all relative ...to me it dint matter much coz my upbringing was more was by far more different than ur co-worker neeeraj, not to say this to cause any insult to his but just that , the difference is for a lack of a better phrase...i was exposed to different cultures , music , food at an early age than many Indians might be ...and it also holds true for ur fellow americans ..since many are ignorant and oblivious about different cultures , music and lifestyles.....and it for this reason i guess ur here in india ..to get a better edge over others in terms of learning , getting a different kind of work experience and overall be able to appreciate the world better ....thus moving a notch further to becoming a world citizen ...right ....:) MORE LATER
